Golfers traveling to the popular tourist destination of Dorado on the northern coast of Puerto Rico are spoilt for choice when it comes to playing above average golf courses as there are four top tracks attached to large beach resorts, all of them designed by Robert Trent Jones in the 1970s.

The TPC Dorado Beach East and West are the best two tracks in town but the two former Plantation Club courses, Pineapple and Sugarcane (formerly known as the North and South courses of the Cerromar Beach Resort and then the Plantation Club before the TPC re-branding) are not far behind in terms of quality, even though they are routed over drier, more open ground.

The TPC Dorado Beach Pineapple course underwent an extensive renovation by Ray Floyd in 2005 when its routing was changed to accommodate both new and restyled holes. Sporting softer bunkering and less undulating greens, the Pineapple is more a resort-style layout than its sister course.

The old par three 7th hole is now the 12th, playing from a new raised tee to a large green fronting the sea and it is rightly regarded as one of the best short holes in Puerto Rico.

The Pineapple course was laid waste by Hurricane Maria in 2017 the following message is posted on the TPC Dorado Beach website:

Due to Hurricane Maria, the Pineapple Course at TPC Dorado Beach is closed until further notice. The Club has initiated cleanup efforts across the property and will provide a full assessment and updates as we progress, including tentative re-opening dates as they become available.
