Egypt
Egypt is a truly enchanting and mystical holiday destination. A cruise along the Nile from Luxor to Aswan, taking in the Valley of the Kings – where the Pharaohs were laid to rest – and various temples along the way will remain etched in the memory for a lifetime. Factor in a few days in Cairo for The Sphinx and The Great Pyramids and then finish off with a laze by the Red Sea. If you don’t believe us, then you should listen to the words of Greek historian Herodotus who lived in the 5th century BC, “nowhere in the world are there so many marvellous things of unspeakable greatness”. So get your bags packed and don't forget your clubs.

There are now more than twenty golf courses in Egypt with the majority constructed since the late 1990s. However, golf in Egypt dates back to WW1 when the British Forces, stationed in Cairo, introduced the game at the Gezira Sporting Club and later in the 1920s the game was played at the Alexandria Sporting Club.
Leading designers such as Greg Norman (Allegria), Nick Faldo with Schmidt Curley Design (Katameya Dunes) and Gary Player (Cascades at Soma Bay) have unveiled layouts here in Egypt but the most prolific architect in modern times is undoubtedly American John Sanford. Several projects bear his stamp of approval, including Madinat Makadi and the 2013 co-design of Palm Hills with Jack Nicklaus.
There’s no doubt the pace of golf course development has slowed down in the last few years but New Giza Golf Club, the final design of Thomson Perrett & Lobb (the partnership between the late five-time Open champion Peter Thomson and architects Ross Perrett and Tim Lobb) opened for business on the outskirts of Cairo in 2019 and it’s already made a big impact on our Egyptian rankings.
