As you'd expect most of the golf in Zambia is centred around the capital. Lusaka is the product of a country battling to find its way in a new world, caught between colonial beginnings, years of socialist independence and now democracy.
There are a few sports clubs, and specifically for golfers there’s the Lusaka Golf Club, Chilanga Golf Club and Chainama Hills Golf Club, although according to the Zambia Golf Union there are more than twenty clubs operating a minimum of nine holes in the country.
Adam sent us the following comments in October 2013: “I used to live in Zambia. There is a surprisingly beautiful golf course in Solwezi in North-western Province. It is at the Kansanshi copper mine. It has zebras and sable living on the course. Considering the surroundings it’s surprisingly beautiful.” We're not sure the course is still in existence, if you have any information please let us know.
In the late 1970s Golf Digest ranked Nchanga Golf Club (built by copper miners) 14th in an article rating the 50 finest courses outside the United States, sadly it fell into disrepair, but it experienced a resurgence, hosting the Zambian Open in 2006 and 2011. If you've played any of these courses, or have any other information about golf in Zambia we'd love to hear about your experiences.
We updated our Zambian rankings in April 2019 – our top six of the best are listed below.
