Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso is a landlocked nation in West Africa formerly known as the Upper Volta. Its new name, meaning "the land of upright people", brings hope to the nation. There is little wealth in Burkina Faso; in fact, it’s one of the world’s poorest countries, so golf courses are naturally few and far between.

Thanks to Will for informing us that there is one golf club at Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. Le Golf Club de Ouagadougou has a 10-hole course that plays across a rather arid landscape where you’ll putt out on browns rather than greens and play your approach shots from a piece of Astroturf.
The Ouagadougou course may be rudimentary but perhaps one day a champion golfer will emerge from this impoverished tropical land.
