Uganda
Uganda has moved a long way forward since the days of Idi Amin and the country is enjoying a relative renaissance. With breathtaking mountains, equatorial rainforests, Lake Victoria – the world’s largest tropical lake, the mighty Nile and, of course, the country’s star attraction, the endangered mountain gorilla. Uganda is certainly an invigorated country and worthy of an open-minded look.

In 2016, we learned that Kevin Ramsey of Golfplan had completed the first nine of a new course at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort, on the shores of Lake Victoria, grassed with SeaSpay paspalum tees and fairways and A-4 creeping bent greens. In the autumn of 2018, an additional nine holes were introduced for the Serena Open, with the 18th hole now playing to an island green situated right in front of the clubhouse.
In February 2019, David wrote in to tell us a little about the history of one of Uganda's oldest golf clubs, Entebbe: “In 1930 the Prince of Wales came to Uganda on safari, by rail from Kenya.” The Prince became King Edward VIII in 1936 and later abdicated the throne to marry twice-divorced Wallis Simpson. “On arrival the Prince played golf in Entebbe on Monday 10th March – the course being laid down circa 1901.” David continued, saying: “I played the Serena the other day also and it is very international in layout and standard but the 2nd nine still needs a lot of bedding in.”
Our Uganda rankings were last updated in June 2019.
