Jersey

Jersey has been inhabited for more than 250,000 years, long before the melting of the icecaps made it an island in the English Channel. Raided by Vikings, ruled variously by the French, English and Germans (during WWII), the Bailiwick of Jersey is now an independent island, popular tourist destination and tax haven.

Slightly larger and flashier than its more staid Channel Island sibling, Guernsey, Jersey therefore has more to offer the visiting golfer.

There are six golf clubs affiliated to the Jersey Golf Union, three 18-hole golf courses (Royal Jersey Golf Club, La Moye Golf Club and Les Mielles Golf & Country Club) and three 9-hole courses (Les Ormes Golf Club, Wheatlands Hotel & Golf Course and St. Clement (Jersey) Golf Club). Not bad for an isle only 9 miles long and 5 miles wide.

Six-time Open Champion, Harry Vardon, is Jersey’s most famous golfing son and his statue can be seen at Royal Jersey Golf Club. “Don’t play too much golf. Two rounds a day are plenty.” Wise words from Vardon.
