Guinea-Bissau

Once part of the Mali Empire, the Republic of Guinea-Bissau is a West African country that shares its border with Senegal to the north and Guinea to the south and east. Its population of just over one and a half million people occupy a low-lying landscape that extends to around 14,000 square miles. Portuguese is the country’s official language – even though Guinea-Bissau gained independence from its European colonial masters in 1974 – but, remarkably, it’s estimated that less than one person in seven can actually speak it.

With its Atlantic coastline to the west and warm all-year-round climate, you might expect a thriving economy. Unfortunately, Guinea-Bissau is rather impoverished with more than two-thirds of the population living below the poverty line. Golf is naturally not on the agenda in Guinea-Bissau. There are no golf courses in the country to our knowledge, but if you know otherwise we’ll be thrilled to hear from you.
