The island of Mauritius conjures up the tropical paradise image and the country of celebration… based on the sheer number of festivals that take place on this glorious and most accessible island in the Indian Ocean. With its Anglo-French history and its historical industries of sugar, tea and tobacco it’s becoming a desirable destination for more adventurous travellers.

Having recently been awarded “Golf Destination of the Year” for Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Gulf States, Toto Ghoorah, Director UK Office, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority said: "Mauritius is the new kid on the block as far as golf is concerned. After just five or six years we have been able to establish ourselves as a golf destination par excellence.”

With a dozen or so courses to choose from on the island, there is no doubt that Mauritius is well on its way to becoming a truly outstanding golf destination. If you don’t believe us, then simply check out Bernhard Langer’s Le Touessrok (recently renamed Ile aux Cerfs), which is set on its own island known as the “Island of the Deer”. Anahita, the course that Ernie Els designed, is causing quite a stir and the Legend course at Belle Mare Plage is well worthy of close inspection.
