If you are looking for sun, sand and sea then look no further than Libya. OK, there’s a lot of desert here, but despite its reputation, Libya is a country with heart and some amazing history, including the ancient Roman city of Leptis Magna. Unfortunately, since the demise of the Gadaffi regime in 2011, the country has descended into complete turmoil, with militias now controlling large swathes of a country that's ruled, incredibly, by two different governments.

A couple of rudimentary 9-hole courses sprung up around the capital at the start of the new millennium, one close to the now defunct Tripoli International airport and one on the site of an old rubbish tip at Gargarish, on the Mediterranean coast. Oil workers were able to play on a few basic layouts in the oil fields, with oil-based browns used as putting surfaces, but these have all now fallen into disrepair since expat workers were evacuated.
