Czech Republic

The Czech Republic (formerly Czechoslovakia) is a fascinating country with quaint cobbled streets and squares lined by the most fabulous architecture, some of which dates back to gothic and renaissance eras. The Czech Republic also produces world-class tennis players in Martina Navratilova and Ivan Lendl, but the best way to enjoy this wonderful country is to pull up a café chair and order a fine Czech beer. Who knows, you may even catch a glimpse of the next Eva Herzigova.

There’s a rich Czech golfing history too, dating back to 1904 when Karlovy Vary first opened for play. Now there are more than 100 courses in the Czech Republic serving around 53,000 affiliated Czech golf club members. There are quite a number of fine courses too and we bring you the pick of the Czech layouts.

Nine holes of the Kyle Phillips-designed PGA National course at The Oaks opened in August 2019 and we were there to see them just a matter of days after the club opened its doors for selected preview play. We also visited another brand new development at Twin Chapels, a Jonathan Gaunt design that was still growing in.

We returned a year later for the unveiling of all eighteen holes at the PGA National course, though the clubhouse was still under renovation and is not due to open until 2021. Twin Chapels is still growing in and the rather grand clubhouse remains unfinished, with no sign of the development opening for business.

Our rankings of the Top 20 Golf Courses of the Czech Republic were last updated in February 2020. Click the link to read the story.
