Togo

Bounded by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east and Burkina Faso to the north, the Togolese Republic (to give the country its official title) lies in a long, narrow north-south strip on the west coast of the African continent. Lomé, the capital, is situated on Togo’s short coastline along the Gulf of Guinea and it’s through the city’s port that exports like coffee and cocoa earn the country much needed foreign revenue.

Golf du Togo’s 9-hole golf course in the north suburb of Agouenyive in Lomé was fashioned in the early 1960s and its tree-lined fairways – laid out within a compact parcel of land beside the main highway north from the capital – form a welcoming green oasis for golfers visiting the capital. The only other golf facility we know if in Togo lies ten miles away on the coast, in the grounds of the Sarakawa Hotel, where a little 5-hole pitch and putt course has been built for residents.
