Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is one of the ancient cradles of civilisation and it was once an important stopover point on the Great Silk Route. The eastern part of the South Caucasus and the northwestern regions of Iran bound Azerbaijan. This is where the East meets the West and the culture and traditions go back to the Bronze Age.

Jon Hunt of International Design Group fashioned the first 18-hole layout in the country at the National Azerbaijan Golf Club in Quba, which was built as the HQ for the newly created Azerbaijan Golf Federation. The 7,011-yard course staged the Azerbaijan Golf Challenge Open (a new event on the European Challenge Tour) in July 2014, which Germany’s Moritz Lampert won.
In October 2015, Azerbaijan President Ilham Iliyev cut the red ribbon to officially open the new Dreamland Golf Club and former Ryder Cup player Colin Montgomerie was on hand to hit the first tee shot at this state of the art golf facility. Located half an hour’s drive east of Baku city centre, the new 18-hole layout was designed by Cynthia Dye McGarey (Pete Dye’s niece), with native olive tree-lined fairways routed around ten man-made lakes.
