Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is the ninth largest nation in the world and covers a massive 2.7 million square kilometres, an equivalent size to Western Europe. Part of the former Soviet Union, Kazakhstan has been brought into the western limelight by the comedian Sasha Baron Cohen (the creator of Ali G.) and his controversial character Borat. The Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry did not receive Borat with open arms but, without this character, western knowledge of Kazakhstan surely wouldn’t be what it is today!

With remote and wild nature reserves, which are important habitats for the elusive snow leopard and breathtaking scenery, Kazakhstan is a world apart from the west. But what do we know? We’re not entirely sure whether Kazakhstan officially sits in Asia or Europe. Let’s just say it’s in Eurasia.
