Aluminium mining is the mainstay of Suriname’s economy but to our knowledge there is only one golf course in the entire country. Paramaribo Golf Club is located just outside the capital city and it’s a surprisingly popular facility.
The club operates a 9-hole course with different tees for the front and back nine. There are also a total of twelve greens that come into play during an 18-hole round here. Most of the putting surfaces are small, raised platforms that are protected by sand bunkers to increase the challenge.
With an Atlantic coastline that stretches out for around 200 miles and a wonderful tropical climate, Suriname has the potential to be a golfing destination of some repute. However, we are unaware of any new golf development projects in the country, but if we hear any news we’ll be the first to let you know.
