Eritrea

Once an Italian colony and occupied by the British during World War II, Eritrea finally became independent from neighbouring Ethiopia in 1993 after more than three decades of armed struggles. Since then, Eritrea has clashed with Yemen and again with Ethiopia. A fragile peace exists today but Eritrea still has much rebuilding to do after so much conflict.

Eritrea’s long Red Sea coastline could be seen as ideal golf terrain but it’s that very coastline – and its associated infrastructure – that is so important to landlocked Ethiopia. We suspect that golf will be at the bottom of the rebuilding agenda. There are no golf courses in Eritrea and we doubt any are likely to appear in the near future.
