Guam

The island of Guam, extending to 209 square miles in the western Pacific Ocean, is designated as an unincorporated insular area of the USA and it's the largest and most southerly of the Mariana Islands. Occupied by the Japanese in December 1941, it was recaptured by American troops after fierce fighting in July 1944 and there are still several large military bases located around this strategically important island.

Happily, with the hostilities of World War II long over, the economy of Guam is now largely reliant on tourists from, of all places, Japan, and a large proportion of these visitors will play golf on at least one of the seven golf facilities on the island during their vacation.
