Myanmar
Republic of the Union of Myanmar – formerly known as Burma – is a country of diversity and many different languages. Myanmar was long considered an outcast nation due to its military coup in 1962 and the sickening human rights record that followed. Nowadays Myanmar is slowly reforming and decades of international isolation drew to a close in 2012, due in no small part to the democracy fighter, Aung San Suu Kyi.

A former outpost of the British Empire, golf in Burma dates back to 1887 when a 9-hole course was laid out at The Thayet Golf Club for recreational use of the armed forces. Most of the better golfing layouts are situated close to Yangon (formerly known as Rangoon), the capital city, including Yangon Golf Club, the second oldest club in Myanmar established by the British in 1909.
The full Myanmar golfing picture is rather fractured, some reports suggest that there are as many as 130 golf courses in the country, even the local Golf Tour Operators don't know for sure.
For a number of years the premier course in Myanmar had been the Gary Player design at Pun Hlaing Golf Club, located to the northwest of Yangon, but the arrival of a new Schmidt-Curley design at Myotha National Golf Club near Mandalay in 2018 has dramatically altered things at the top of the table. Occupying a rolling landscape, with more than 130 feet of elevation change across the property, this new 18-hole layout is now firmly installed in the national No. 1 spot.
