Nepal

Nepal is the roof of the world and the backbone of the Himalayas, a place of breathtaking scenic splendour, hiking and ancient temples. It’s a mystical and dreamy country that draws people back year after year. Perhaps it’s the crisp clean air, dramatic mountains or the spirituality of Nepal? Regardless, Nepal is one of the world’s most uplifting and most special places on earth. So should you pack your golf shoes as well as your walking boots?

Regardless, Nepal is one of the world’s most uplifting and most special places on earth. So should you pack your golf shoes as well as your walking boots?

A few years ago, the answer to that question might possibly have been no, even though golf in Nepal dates back to 1917, after senior Nepalese dignitaries returned from Scotland with some golf clubs in tow. In 1999 a new resort near Kathmandu opened and for this reason alone you should definitely pack your clubs.

The course at the Gokarna Forest Golf Resort was fashioned by the illustrious David McLay Kidd, designer of the magnificent Bandon Dunes. Gorkarna Forest is perhaps the finest 18-hole golf course in South Asia but the Himalayan Golf Course in Pokhara is maybe Asia’s most eccentric layout and it's home to one of the continent's most dramatic par fives.
