The volcanic island of Saint Lucia – 27 miles long by 14 miles wide – is one of the more mountainous of the Caribbean islands, with a central mountain range running the length of the island. Named after Saint Lucy of Syracuse in Sicily, the island is all that visitors to the Caribbean dream about – a small tropical gem that is still relatively unknown.

One of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, it lies between Martinique and St Vincent, north of Barbados, with a shape that resembles either a mango or an avocado, depending on your taste of tropical fruit. The two Piton Mountains are located on the western side of St Lucia and they form the most famous landmarks on the island. The “world's only drive in volcano” is also sited near Soufriere, attracting many visitors to its bubbly, steamy sulphur springs.

There are three golf courses on St Lucia; two 9-hole layouts at the Jalousie Hilton Resort and the Sandals Regency Resort with an 18-hole course at the St Lucia Golf Club. But the golfing bar on the island is soon to be raised with the 2021 arrival of the much-anticipated Coore & Crenshaw course at Cabot Point, where Ben Cowan-Dewar is extending his Canadian Cabot golf model into the tropics.
