Ethiopia
Landlocked Ethiopia is bordered by Eritrea to the north, Sudan to the west, Kenya to the south, Somalia to the east and Djibouti to the northeast. After Nigeria, Ethiopia is Africa's second most populous country and, according to the bible, it’s where Adam and Eve lived. Around the capital Addis Ababa, some of the oldest traces of humanity were found. Ethiopia is undeniably an historical treasure.

Haile Selassie reigned supreme for a large part of the 20th century, uniting Ethiopia and other parts of Africa and he is still considered Jah’s (God’s) incarnation by the Rastafari movement. A Soviet-supported Junta deposed Selassie in the mid 1970s and turmoil promptly ensued in the shape of droughts, famines and uprisings. The country is only just beginning to stagger back from decades of terrible hardship.
Golf, therefore, is not high up on the Ethiopian agenda but the country does have two golf courses, both located in the capital. Addis Ababa Golf Club has 9 holes and there’s a 6-hole course at the British Embassy. We also understand that an 18-hole course is planned in the Legetafo area, part of huge development that includes a luxury hotel and conference centre. Perhaps there’s hope on the Ethiopian horizon?
