Seychelles

The Seychelles extend to around 174 square miles and they lie over 900 miles east of the African continent in the Indian Ocean, an archipelago nation of over a hundred different granite and coral islands. Along with Mauritius and Réunion, they form a trio of very desirable top-end holiday destinations.

Vasco de Gama is thought to have been the first European to set foot in the Seychelles in 1502 but it was the French, not the Portuguese, who ruled over the territory in the latter half of the 18th century. By 1810, however, Britain had stepped in to take control, a position that lasted until the islands gained independence in 1976.

The Lemuria golf course on Praslin is the only 18-hole layout in Seychelles but there is also the 9-hole Seychelles Golf Club layout – formerly known as Le Reef Golf Club – on the main island of Mahe. Routed around a mangrove swamp, it’s an interesting although rather short course.
