Mexico is the eclectic bridge between North and Central America, a paradise country that has a little of everything to suit everybody. Mexican heritage is as rich and complex as its culinary taste. It fits the bill as “the country that has it all”.

Sleepy, old-fashioned colonial towns sit comfortably alongside busy modern cities; snow-capped mountains and arid cacti strewn deserts bring together a tempting margarita of opposites. But should you pack your golf clubs or your sombrero? The answer is a resounding – golf clubs!

With a warm year-round climate, Mexico provides near perfect golfing weather conditions, although it can be hot and humid during the summer months. According to the Federación Mexicana de Golf, Mexico now boasts nearly 200 golf courses and the number is growing.

The quality of Mexican courses has always been good but the bar has been raised in recent years by the addition of exciting new layouts on the Baja California Sur Peninsula, the Maya Riviera and along the Pacific coastline. Mexico is now a must-visit golfing destination that can truly brag about world-class golf courses designed by many of the leading American golf architecture firms and others from around the world.

Opened at the start of 2020, the 18-hole layout at Rancho San Lucas becomes the seventh Greg Norman-designed course in Mexico (with at least a couple of other projects in the pipeline) and it’s sure to make a big impact on Mexican ranking charts still to come. Forming the golfing centrepiece of a massive resort on the sandy southern extremity of the Baja California peninsula, this course spans three distinct coastal ecosystems: the ocean, the sand dunes and the arroyos.
