The Four Seasons Punta Mita resort sits in the shadow of the Sierra Madre Mountains to the north of Bahía de Banderas, one of the largest bays on Mexico’s Pacific coastline and the development is spread over an enormous 2,700 acres, encompassing white sandy beaches and clear blue waters that are ideal for sailing, snorkeling and scuba diving.

Jack Nicklaus designed both golf courses at Punta Mita (the Bahia course opened in 2009, ten years after the Pacifico layout) and each set of lush, rolling fairways are set out on a stretch of natural rock outcropping renowned as a prime site for whale watching.

The fairways of the Bahia course enjoy greater elevation changes than the Pacifico. Shimmering lakes and lateral water hazards are key features of the Bahia layout which can be stretched out beyond 7,000 yards from the tips. The 15th and 17th holes will remain etched in the memory and are two of the finest par fours on the property. Banderas Bay is a sparkling backdrop for the approach shot to the tough 462-yard 15th and the 387-yard 17th follows the curvature of a cove, where the approach shot requires a bold carry over craggy rocks to a tough-to-find beachside green that is located literally a few yards away from the El Faro surfers.

“You would be hard-pressed to ask for a more beautiful backdrop for a golf course than Punta Mita,” remarked course designer Jack Nicklaus. “To be given spectacular oceanfront land as a canvas not once, but twice, here at Punta Mita is exciting for a designer and it reflects a commitment from ownership to provide a memorable golf experience. I’m confident people are going to enjoy the challenge and beauty of this golf course, as well as the incredible scenery.”

In 2022, Jim Lipe continued work on a 5-year renovation project at the resort, upgrading greens, surrounds, bunkers and tees on the Bahia layout. Further work will include replacing fairway grass with Trinity Zoysia.
