According to the Royal Belgian Golf Federation, there are almost 100 affiliated golf clubs in Belgium and more than 65,000 recognised golf club members, as officially confirmed in January 2020. A few of Belgium’s courses are potentially world-class and we currently feature twenty-five of the best. For those wondering why there are so many “Royal” courses within such a relatively small golfing country, the answer lies in the fact that Belgian golf clubs automatically adopt the title in their name when they have been in operation for fifty years.
Work started in 2021 on a new 27-hole golf complex less than ten kilometres from the Luxembourg border. The development belongs to investor Roby Schintgen, who purchased the Château du Bois d’Arlon and 540 acres of the surrounding woodland in 2013/14, and he’s entrusted the golfing element of the project to Stuart Hallett and Jonathan Davison, who will share the design duties.
