Landlocked Zimbabwe has a rich cultural heritage that predates the Colonial era but few holidaymakers are heading to one of southern Africa’s most glorious countries.
Zimbabwe grew out of British Colonial Rhodesia and was ruled since the Rhodesian Bush War by Robert Mugabe until a coup d'état in 2017 forced the dictator to resign.
Golf has been played in Zimbabwe since the early white settlers arrived in the 19th century. The first official golf club was founded in Bulawayo in 1895 and there are around 50 golf courses in Zimbabwe today.
The best courses are located in Harare, including the prestigious old parkland course at Royal Harare Golf Club – originally founded as Salisbury Golf Club in 1898 – which occupies a sizeable property next to the Sports Club cricket ground and the Presidential Palace. The course has been the venue for almost half the Zimbabwe Open Golf Tournaments since the event was inaugurated in 1984, sharing the hosting of this competition with Chapman Golf Club.
Our Zimbabwe rankings were last updated in April 2019.
