Turkey is where Europe meets the Middle East. It has a long and fascinating heritage dating back some 10,000 years and spanning thirteen successive civilisations. The country was very much facing East until Atatürk almost single-handedly turned it around to face the west.

There’s more to Turkey than kebabs, carpets and coffee, Turkey is more about mystery, mosques and the Mediterranean. Okay, so Turkey also has a lengthy Black Sea coastline, but the best Turkish golf is totally focused on the Antalya region or, more specifically, on the Mediterranean's Belek.

Despite Turkey’s long history, the Turkish Golf Federation has only been in existence since 1996 and there are around 20 golf clubs across this lovely country serving about seven thousand affiliated club members. Quantity does not with it bring quality and we can say with absolute confidence that there is some truly magical golf to be played in Turkey, perhaps some of the finest golf on the Mediterranean. We just hope that the standard remains high.

The Turkish Golf Federation wanted to create 100 new courses in four years. Their ambitious plan failed, in no small part due to the Global Economic Crisis, but a few notable new golf courses have opened in recent years and one receiving many accolades is Tim Lobb’s Carya.

Construction of the new Regnum Golf & Country Club Ankara course was completed in 2020, with play commencing after a grow-in period in spring of 2021. Designed by Tim Lobb, this is the architect’s third project with developer Fikret Ozturk, having previously worked on the Regnum Bodrum course and Carya in Belek.
