Prosper (Old)

Owned by Prosper Trading, an Ostrava business consulting services company, Prosper is laid out within a property that extends to 350 acres in the Beskydy Mountain region. In addition to its two 18-hole golf courses, the resort extends to a 27-room, four-star hotel with swimming pool and a ranch, complete with a horse riding area, stables, indoor and outdoor arenas.

Designed by Miguel Angel Jiménez, Prosper's Old course can be extended to a massive 7,177-yards and it opened for play in 2001. The New course, incidentally, is only a fewer yards shorter (with the same par of 72) and was inaugurated in 2004. Both parkland courses have been shaped by earth moving equipment with several man made lakes created to assist irrigation.

The Old course, on the southwest side of the property, is configured (like the New) as two loops of nine holes, with each ending near the clubhouse. Four doglegged par four holes are played in succession on the back nine before the feature hole on the card is tackled – the 169-yard, par three, 15th is played to an island green where anything other than a very good tee shot will be severely punished.

In 2009, Prosper Golf Resort played host to the Czech Open (then called the Moravia Silesia Open), which resulted in Sweden’s Oskar Hennignsson claiming his maiden European Tour victory on the Old course. A composite course was used for the 2010 Czech Open, comprising holes 1-17 of the Old course and hole 18 from the New. Another Swede, Peter Hanson, claimed the 2010 title after winning a three-way play-off against Gary Boyd and Peter Lawrie.

The course used for the 2011 Czech Open was a true composite layout, called the Middle course. Effectively, the Middle is the back nine holes from both the Old and New courses. Englishman Oliver Fisher, the youngest ever Walker Cup player, landed the 2011 title. This was Fisher’s maiden European Tour title.

The Czech Open was scheduled to remain at Prosper Golf Resort for eight further years, but the event was cancelled due to lack of funding.
