TPC Dorado Beach (Sugarcane)
Dorado, Vega Alta- Address301 PR-693, Dorado, Vega Alta 00646, Puerto Rico
The popular Puerto Rican tourist trap of Dorado is home to four great courses, all of them built by Robert Trent Jones in the 1970s.
TPC Dorado Beach East and West may well be the best of the quartet but the other two tracks, Pineapple and Sugarcane at the former Plantation Club, are also of a very high standard and each of these four would comfortably feature in a Caribbean Top 50 list of courses.
The Sugarcane course underwent an extensive renovation by Ray Floyd in 2005 when six new holes were constructed and three others were totally remodeled on the back nine. The front nine retains most of its original configuration but it also features a new short hole now.
Many consider the Sugarcane to be a tougher test than its sister course. Many of the bunkers are deep, some of the greens are severely contoured and there are several manmade water features on the closing holes that enhance both the scenery and the degree of difficulty.
