With tree-lined fairways arranged around the historic Welpe manor as two returning nines, the course at Golfclub Vechta-Welpe is a late 1980s design that entertains from the first tee at “Last Easy” until the last green at “Nineteen minus one”.
The layout extends to a modest 5.567 metres from the back tees, playing to a par of 72, with water coming into play on several occasions; most notably at the par four 1st and par three 13th, where small ponds protect the front of the green at both these holes.
Highlight holes include the 299-metre 4th – doglegging right with a split fairway offering a high road or low road into the green – and the 353-metre 9th which veers left past a couple of small ponds to a heavily bunkered green.
The back nine begins with a tough par four at the 407-metre 10th – which passes through a “tree gate” formed by two huge oaks in front of the green – and ends with the 445-metre 18th, which doglegs severely left to the home green.
