Bernhard von Limburger laid out the original 9-hole course at Golf Club Lohersand across a forested heathland property in 1959. It then took another forty years before the layout was expanded to the eighteen holes that are in play today.

The layout extends to a modest overall length of 5,480 metres from the back tees, with par set at 71 (out in 35 then back in 36). Water comes into play at three holes on the outward half: the par five 2nd, the par three 6th, and the short par four 7th which are all routed around a large irrigation lake.

Highlight holes include the right doglegging par five 5th (with four fairway bunkers and three greenside traps to avoid); the short par four 12th (with a huge bunker protecting the front of the green); and the last of the par threes at the 152-metre 17th, located in the southwest corner of the property.
