Lübeck is a bustling city famous for its Gothic architecture, which is set on the River Trave and constitutes the largest German port on the Baltic Sea. Around fifteen kilometres from the city lies Travemünde, a traditional old-fashioned seaside resort on the Bay of Lübeck.

Lübeck-Travemünder is one of Germany's oldest courses and the golf club was founded way back in 1921.The original layout occupied land that was shared with a racecourse and a new site was needed when the racecourse fell into financial difficulties. In 1927 John Morrison – from the famous Colt, Alison and Morrison partnership – was approached to draw up plans for a new course at Travemünde.

When the British returned the course to the club in 1949, the 12-hole layout was reduced to nine holes and the members had to wait until 1992 before the club was able to expand the course to 18 holes. In 2001 Karl Grohs added a further nine holes and now Lübeck-Travemünder has three loops of nine. Only a handful of original 1920s holes exist today and most of these have been altered.

The three nines, White, Blue and Red can be combined to make up any playing combination on this very pleasant seaside park-like course.
