Golfclub Heidelberg-Lobenfeld was founded in 1968 and a 9-hole layout designed Donald Harradine was inaugurated five years later. By 1978 this layout was extended to eighteen holes and it’s since been modified in the new millennium by Thomas Himmel.

The upgrade by Himmel Golf Design was done in two construction phases. As the firm states on its website: “in addition to the necessary general renovation, numerous design and visual weaknesses were remedied (with) greens transformed into visually more attractive green complexes.

Considerable play-related strategic upgrades were carried out. Furthermore, some fairways were modified, lengthened while greens and tees were partially relocated. Additionally, new fairway bunkers were created on the completely bunker-free fairways.

The original course is now visually more structured and ecologically enhanced by the creation of comprehensive extensive zones. Numerous no-play-areas were used for this purpose. Roughs were also added to numerous bunker surrounds to have a lasting positive effect on maintenance efforts,”

Today, the course extends to 6,250 metres across a 140-acre property with holes arranged as two returning nines. Highlights include the left doglegging long par four 5th (rated stroke index 1); the equally tough par five 13th; and the last (and longest) of the par threes at the 206-metre 16th.
