Wörthsee Golf Club aims to be a premium venue, not only locally, but also on a national level. To that end they offer all the amenities and pay a great deal of attention to the smaller details, which becomes readily apparent on the golf course. Everything is manicured to perfection, but not to the point where the course loses all naturalness and turns into a mere technicality. While the examination is fairly clinical, there are also enough playful aspects to create the necessary feel good factor for members. A predominantly natural course was not on the cards anyway, since the surrounding area is industrial and the highway nearer than the lake that the club is named after.
The routing of the front nine is sublime. There is little indication of the holes being very close together, so an air of intimacy prevails at any time. The back nine starts with the three signature holes that all feature large water hazards and are called the Bermuda Triangle for their ball-eating qualities. The rest of the course then foregoes the clever shielding techniques employed on the front, which is probably due to the fact that the club hasn't yet redesigned that part of the layout. They started out with fairly average aspirations and only changed to a high-end philosophy around the turn of the millennium. The unusually slick greens, however, are all new and in top shape.
The entire facilities from the practice ground to the restaurant are nothing short of high class. No wonder the European Senior Tour and the Ladies European Tour have competed here in recent years.
