- Address26 Golf Club Dr, Kennebunk, ME 04043, USA
Featuring tidal-fed water hazards, strategically-positioned bunkers and bent grass greens, the course at Webhannet Golf Club is an 18-hole Skip Wogan design that lies close to the Atlantic at Kennebunk Beach.
Eugene “Skip” Wogan was the long-time superintendent at Essex County Club – working alongside Donald Ross during the short number of years he spent at the club – and he also designed several other courses, including Tedesco in Marblehead and Blue Hill in Canton.
Webhannet dates back to 1901 and the course in the modern day measures a modest 6,100 yards from the back tees, playing to a par of 71, with only one of the four par five holes (#4 “Long Tree”) extending beyond 500 yards.
Feature holes on the outward half include the left doglegged 307-yard 6th (“Port View”) and water-protected 462-yard 8th (“Hodgkin’s Pond”). On the inward half, the 482-yard 14th (“Uplands”) plays to a severely canted green, while the 290-yard 16th (“Sunset”) offers a great birdie chance before turning for home.
