Just a year after opening, the Tobago Plantations Estate course made an immediate impact on the professional golf circuit when it hosted the Tobago Plantations Seniors Classic event on the European Senior Tour in 2002. Three more editions of the early season tournament were held before it disappeared from the schedule.
The 18-hole layout is set within a 750-acre gated property on the southern tip of the island, close to the city of Scarborough, where the fairways overlook the crystal-clear waters of Little Rockly Bay. Out on the course, there’s a pleasant mix of holes, some of them coastal, with others routed further inland through the mangroves.
Bob Hunt and Marcus Blackburn designed the layout whilst working for PGA Design Consulting (now named International Golf Design) and it’s now a certified member of the “Audubon Co-operative Sanctuary System,” one of the environmental programs organised by Audubon International.
Both the course and the clubhouse were refurbished in 2013, after the Magdalena Grand Beach & Golf Resort acquired the facility.
