Completed in 1978, the palm-fringed fairways of the St. François course were lovingly laid out over a coastal landscape near the southeasterly tip of Grande-Terre by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Snr.

The early holes can knock players off their stride if they allow the water hazards to intimidate as there are ponds to the right, in front of, then to the left of the greens at the first three holes, followed by a tee shot across yet more water at the 4th hole.

After that slightly daunting start, the round settles down and golfers face only a couple of further aquatic challenges between tee and green at the 9th and 18th. The home hole measures 412-yards from the back tees and it kinks left (with out of bounds on that side) as it plays toward an offset green protected by – you guessed it – water on the right hand side.
