Built on either side of the railway line into Newton, the golf course at Sand Creek Station features a replica of the world famous Road Hole green at the par five 16th hole. It’s a Jeff Brauer design that opened for public play in 2006, quickly gaining a reputation as one of the best pay and play facilities in the state.

Extending to 7,359 yards from the back markers, the layout is configured as two distinct nines: the outward half, accessed by a concrete underpass, plays on the east side of the railway track and the inward half is routed around a housing development on the clubhouse side.

Notable holes include the par five 4th, built with a wildly contoured green, and the par four 9th, which is played to a small platform green. On the back nine, the 640-yard 10th is aptly named “Beast,” with water running along the left of the fairway on the tee shot then switching to the other side of the hole towards the green.

The club became the tenth in Kansas to host a USGA championship when it staged the Amateur Public Links in 2014. Unfortunately, this was the last time the event was ever held and it’s since been replaced on the national calendar by a new men’s amateur four-ball competition.
