Rockingham
Rockingham, Western Australia- AddressElanora Dr, Rockingham WA 6168, Australia
Founded in 1947, Rockingham Golf Club moved a short distance from its original location to a new site next to Lake Cooloongup in 1985, with Murray Dawson carving out an 18-hole course from native bush.
Occupying a generous 190-acre property, the course extends to almost 6,200 metres, with tree-lined holes arranged as two returning 9-hole circuits. The landscape is fairly flat, so it’s an easy walk to get around the eighteen holes. There are a couple of irrigation ponds located in the middle of the course close to the maintenance facility but they never come into play, allowing golfers to play free from any water hazards.
Highlight holes on the card include the first (and shortest) of the par threes at the 140-metre 3rd (with two big bunkers guarding the front of the green); the longest of the par fives at the 480-metre 7th (which is arrow-straight but relatively wide); and the par four 14th, the furthest hole from the clubhouse, where the fairway opens out from the tee as it continues to swing left towards the green.
