The Regnum Golf and Country Club Bodrum, the first 18-hole golf facility in the port city, opened for play in 2018. It was the second collaboration between developer Fikret Öztürk, who also operates the 9-hole Bodrum Golf and Tennis Club, and architect Tim Lobb. Their first project, Carya Golf Club Belek, is widely regarded as one of the best in the country.
The par 71 layout measures 6,016 metres from the back tees, occupying a rather hilly property, with lightly bunkered fairways laid out around several man-made lakes and a working olive grove. Indeed, the olive oil from the estate is marketed as a house product by Regnum.
According to the R&A's Golf Around the World Report 2019, "The course sits on an old olive grove, at an elevation of 1,640 feet, and offers 100 feet of pitch across its rolling terrain – enough for dramatic long views of the surrounding valleys and hills. The site’s 1,450 acres offers plenty of room for residential development, with future plans for up to 275 villas."
“Because of the rocky conditions, we did a bare minimum of drawing in advance, and worked the design out in the field in close partnership with the construction company,” said Tim Lobb. “It was really the first time I have ever worked that way; it demands total trust between architect, client and contractor.”
