Pine Lakes
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina- Address5603 Granddaddy Dr, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577, USA
In a region so saturated with golf options, there is some value in being able to declare oneself among the originals, which would kickstart the fascination with golf on the Grand Strand. Pine Lakes Country Club has gone public since its 1927 founding, offering visitors the chance to play the historic course.
The architect was also a notable one in golf history, albeit not for explicitly for his work as an architect. Robert White was the original president of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) and would later co-found the Association of Golf Course Architects.
The course has seen many changes over the past century, but Pine Lakes made a move to restore at least part of White’s vision during 2008, when it hired Craig Schreiner and Rick Robbins to fully restore the back nine to White’s specifications. The front nine was significantly renovated to better match White’s design while also taking the state of the modern game into consideration.
As you continue your golf trip throughout the region, remember that it all started here.
