There are a number of very good 18-hole courses in the Vestfold area of Norway such as Borre, Larvik and Vestfold. However, Nøtterøy should also be included in any list of above average golf courses within that region.
Jeremy Turner has designed and upgraded a large number of Scandinavian courses and he was the architect behind this open, parkland course which saw its first paying customers tee off in 2000.
After a rather gentle start to the round, where ponds have to be avoided – either greenside or beside tee shot landing areas – water again provides the main obstacle at the 173-yard, par three, 7th hole, where the tee shot must carry all the way to the green.
Holes 9 and 11 are tighter, doglegged par fives that precede three demanding par fours that each measure over 420 yards, with water all the way down the length of the 13th fairway for added difficulty. The closing hole is a 526-yard, par five with two huge bunkers at the back and four pot bunkers guarding the front of the green.
