Nelson Bay (Championship)
Nelson Bay, New South Wales- Address57 Dowling St, Nelson Bay NSW 2315, Australia
Originally known as Tomaree Golf Links when the club was formed with a 9-hole course in the early 1960s, the sub-tropical Nelson Bay Golf Club has developed down the years into a well-regarded 27-hole facility with the most compelling of the three 9-hole loops appearing at holes 10-18.
Ray McKinlay, the professional at Merewether Golf Club, laid out the original 9-hole course then Prosper Ellis designed an expanded 18-hole layout in the early 1970s. Almost thirty years later, Phil Ryan from Pacific Coast Design added another 9-hole layout which opened for play in 1998.
Highlight holes include the long, slightly left doglegging par four 2nd (with out of bounds on the left and bunkers to the front left and right of the green) and the par three 14th in the southeast corner of the property, where an attractive irrigation pond lies immediately to the left of the putting surface.
