Murhof is located to a few kilometres to the north of the historic city of Graz, which is listed by Unesco as a World Heritage Centre.
The Golf Club at Murhof is set most enchantingly in English park-like surroundings and the club was founded in 1963 and the course was designed by of Bernhard von Limburger when very few locals were interested in golf. It was a bold move, which has paid off and Murhof is now one of Austria’s best golf course and it attracts many visitors through its own high reputation.
Not resting on their laurels, in 1996 the club commissioned Michael Pinner (formerly with Nicklaus Design) to renovate the course and this project was completed in 2000.
The most demanding stretch of holes on the course is between the 5th and 11th where only one of the three par fives and four par fours is less than 450 yards. The best is the 470-yard par four 6th where water to the right threatens the tee shot then a tree in the middle of the fairway hampers the approach to a well-guarded green.
Recently installed fairway irrigation has removed the issue of dried out fairways and now the club can guarantee the quality during the heat of summer. Naturally you will need to play here at Golf Club Murhof between early spring and late autumn, as most of Austria becomes a big ski resort during the winter months.
