- AddressBogd Khan Mountain, Mongolia
Sky Resort, situated just outside the city of Ulaanbaatar in the lovely valley of Bogd Khaan Mountain, was established as a ski resort in 2009 by MCS Group, a Mongolian conglomerate with operations in engineering, mining, real estate and IT.
Skiing is a winter season sport of course (even with artificial snow generating machines that sometimes have to be used here) so in 2013, the introduction of the Mt. Bogd golf course turned Sky Resort into an all year round recreational destination.
Designed by David Dale of Golfplan, a company with extensive experience of building courses where no others have gone before, the 18-hole layout has been built to championship standard, using Kentucky bluegrass for fairways and T1 bentgrass for greens.
A round at Mt. Bogd opens and closes with strong par fives, each measuring over 500 metres from the back markers. In between these testing holes, there are even longer par fives to contend with at the 5th and 12th but the signature hole is surely the dramatic 190-metre 17th (the first hole viewed on entry to the resort) which plummets from an elevated tee position to a distant green below.
