Magallanes
Punta Arenas, Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica- AddressPunta Arenas, Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica, Chile
Situated on the Brunswick Peninsula, overlooking the Strait of Magellan, the 9-hole layout at Magallanes Golf Club is one of the most southerly courses in the world. When the wind gets up, as it often does here, there’s absolutely no hiding from its ferocity.
We understand the course was originally laid out by members of Club Naval de Campo Rio de los Cieros in 1917 but we don’t know when this club became known as Margallanes Golf Club. There are actually more than nine holes in operation at the club with several interesting additional holes laid out around a winding creek in the northern portion of the property.
Highlight holes include the short par four 2nd (played uphill with an escarpment running along the right side of the fairway); the long par four 7th (with a little pond positioned to the front right of the green); and the long par four 9th, which has out of bounds to the right of a right to left sloping fairway that drops down towards the home green.
