The town of Villette d’Anthon is set in the heart of Lyon, the capital of the Gauls. This beautiful area, close to the French Alps is famous for wine, most notably Beaujolais and Cotes du Rhone. The Lyon Golf Club was founded in 1919 and it’s set in a delightful 500-acre estate, flanked by the River Rhone and the club boasts two full 18-hole courses – “Les Brocards” and “Le Sangliers”. There’s also an 8-hole practice course where the members can hone their skills.

Villette d’Anthon was one of the first and biggest golf developments in the Rhone region and the championship Sangliers course was built in 1991. It’s one of France’s most beautiful courses and the French architect Hugues Lambert designed it. It’s a technically testing layout, which stretches out to more than 6,700 metres with par set at 75. The course weaves its way through woodland and the River Rhone comes into play on six holes, in fact, there is water on no less than nine holes.

The Sangliers (meaning Wild Boars) is not a course for the novice golfer, even from the front tees. It tested the very best golfers when the French Open came here in 2001 seeing the ever-popular José Maria Olazabal emerging victorious.

Undeniably beautiful, Villette d’Anthon is a heavenly place to play golf. You would never believe you were so close to the busy city of Lyon.
