Golf Los Lagos is located just a 15-minute drive north of Zaragoza airport, close to the small settlements of Marlofa and Villarrapa, on the northwest side of the city. Here, it opened in 1997 as a 9-hole course called Prados del Rey, the same name as a nearby residential development.
Three years later, the golf facility changed ownership and a decision was made to expand the layout by adding another nine. Ramón Espinosa, former president of the European Society of Golf Course Architects, was called in to attend to this and the current 18-hole layout at Los Lagos became operational early in 2002.
Today, the course extends to 6,071 metres from the back tees, playing to a par of 72. Both nines start with a rather conventional, left doglegging par five hole but the round ends somewhat unusually with two tough, heavily sand-protected par threes played in the last three holes, at the 152-metre 16th and 175-metre 18th.
The club has hosted a number of national tournaments, most notably the Male Junior Amateur Championship in 2007, which Pedro Erice won by a single stroke from four others. Other winners of this event include José Maria Olazábal (1982 & 1983) and Sergio Garcia (1996), while Jon Rahm also claimed the title in 2012.
