Los Lagartos (David Gutierrez)
Bogotá, Bogotá- AddressCalle 116 # 72A - 80, Bogotá, Colombia
The David Gutierrez course at the 36-hole Club Los Lagartos was where Diego Velásquez won the 2015 Colombian Open. Set in the heart of Bogotá, the layout was redesigned in 2012 by former Nicklaus Design architect, Scott Miller.
Stretching to around 6,300 yards from the tips, the course plays to a par of 72 (36 out then 36 in) with holes arranged as two returning nines. Water, in the shape of ponds and an adjacent large lake, comes into play at more than half the holes, particularly on the front nine.
Highlights include two of the closing three holes on the front nine: the par three 7th plays to a green perched right on the lake and the long par four 9th (rated stroke index 2) swings left off the tee with the lake to the right as the fairway turns towards a bunkerless peninsula green.
On the inward half, the par three 10th calls for a full carry to the green across a corner of the lake, followed a while later by the par four 15th which doglegs right with out of bounds on the left and a small pond protecting the front right of the green.
The club hosted twelve editions of the Los Lagartos Open (also referred to as the Los Lagartos International) between 1964 and 1978, with the first ten tournaments held as Caribbean Tour events. Multiple winners included Roberto De Vicenzo from Argentina, Bert Greene from the United States and Englishmen Tony Jacklin and Peter Townsend.
