Debuting in June 2013, the course at Loreta Golf Club is Austrian-based designer Keith Preston’s third project in the Czech Republic, following his recent highly ranked work at Ypsilon and Albatross. Apart from a full 18-hole layout here, Preston also fashioned a spacious driving range and substantial short game facility to complement the main layout.
The course occupies a beautiful location within the region of Posázaví and the architect deserves great credit for blending the fairways into the local rugged landscape, incorporating hedgerows, mature trees and other natural features such as wetland areas and ponds into the layout. When asked to comment on his design, Preston had this to say:
“Pysely is set in a beautiful environment and that is reflected in the design. I’ve used the terrain as I found it, emphasizing the existing contours of the land to the maximum, rather than trying to construct something completely new and synthetic. Although creating a good course with lots of earth movement is also a challenge which I greatly enjoy, that wasn’t necessary here.”
“This course will be fun to play for all golfers. The course is not long by international standards and so we have put the emphasis on making it visually, strategically and tactically attractive and interesting with many sand and grass bunkers, as well as undulating greens.”
