Californian architect Robert Dean Putman was a busy man in Spain during the early 1970s as he designed both the North and South course at Real La Manga before turning his attention 500 kilometres northwest towards the capital and setting out the 18-hole layout at Golf Club Lomas-Bosque in 1973.
Tight, tree-lined fairways are laid out close to the River Guadarrama, though its flowing waters never interfere with play. The front nine holes occupy moderately hilly terrain while the back nine is set out on more level ground, around El Lago del Bosque. The club also has extensive practice facilities and a recently opened 9-hole pitch & putt course.
Highlight holes include the very short 2nd (measuring all of 82 metres from the back tees), the short par four 8th (which plays to an offset green that’s protected by sand on the left side of the putting surface), and the left doglegged par five 18th, where the lake threatens on the left side as the fairway heads towards the home green.
